Axalto Catalogue Transforms the SIM Card into a Subscriber Focused Applications Player

Dynamic SIM applications suite -ideal for the mass market- gives subscribers wide access to convenient, fun and fashionable services

3GSM World Congress, Cannes, France, February 14, 2005 - Axalto (Euronext: NL0000400653 – AXL) today demonstrated its Consumer Applications Portfolio, a suite of attractive SIM-based applications catering to mass market needs, featuring entertainment, service accessibility, messaging and personal information management services. The end-user focused applications are handset independent, and extend all high-end features to low-end handsets. The catalogue is easy and inexpensive to implement, allowing operators to broaden their service portfolio and target services to several sets of subscriber profiles.

“The Consumer Applications Portfolio offering underlines Axalto’s dedication to consumer services and to mobile operators ,” said Xavier Chanay, Vice President Product Marketing and Development , Axalto. “With the catalogue the SIM becomes the preferred applications player for all types of subscribers because they can get any desired features without being restricted by their handset type.”

Entertainment applications in the offer include Melody™ and Casimo™. Melody, a unique ring tone management solution, allows users to download, store and categorize ring tones on the SIM card. Casimo brings to subscribers popular number games as well as classic word games like anagrams and crosswords. By leveraging existing followings of word and number games amongst older subscribers, and the fun and educational aspect for younger subscribers, Casimo’s appeal cuts across all age groups.

Axalto also builds on the popularity of Instant Messaging (IM) and text messaging with SIMapse™ and SuperSMS™ messaging applications that cater to the youth segment. SIMapse, Axalto’s SIM‑based instant messaging application, affords mobile users most of the popular features of web based Instant Messaging – immediacy, presence, alerts and tracking. SuperSMS enhances the classical messaging experience by allowing users to write longer text messages and save, sort and manage a large number of messages.

Popular personal information management tools in the catalogue include SIMsave™, Jumbo Phonebook and Secure Pass™. SIMsave allows subscribers to back‑up their mobile phonebooks and messages, and retrieve them later – an absolute must‑have given the number of phones that are lost or stolen all over the world, taking with them valuable personal information. Simsave also appeals to small and medium enterprise customers who need to synchronize phonebooks across several devices. With Jumbo Phonebook, subscribers can store up to 1000 contacts, each with multiple details. Secure Pass allows subscribers to securely store as many as 100 PINs and passwords – information that is likely to be forgotten given the multitude of services that one subscribes to in today’s digital world. With Secure Pass subscribers only need to remember the master PIN code in order to access other critical information secured on the card.

Finally, with convenience and promotional applications like My Shortcut and Service Booster™, Axalto truly gives operators’ offerings a prime shelf place in the crowded services marketplace. Geared towards improving both accessibility and awareness for mobile services, these two applications enable faster uptake of new services from mobile service providers and their partners alike.

“The success of these consumer-oriented applications is tremendous all over the world because they truly appeal to all segments of subscribers”, added Xavier Chanay. ”Axalto will continue to build upon its success and worldwide experience to constantly add applications that promote loyalty to the operators into the catalogue, for maximum market share and revenue generation while at the same time bringing convenience and fun to their vast range customers” .
