Axalto Simplifies Handset Configuration with New SIM-Based Solution

New solution eases handset configuration and application installation

3GSM World Congress, Cannes, France, February 14, 2005 - Axalto (Euronext: NL0000400653 – AXL) today demonstrated a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) based solution designed to significantly reduce the complexity of setting up mobile equipment. The solution consists of a SIM agent and a back end server that automatically sets up handset parameters and eases the installation of applications. These features allow the operator to get the user experience right the first time, reducing customer dissatisfaction and costly support calls.

Automatic handset configuration, developed in partnership with Insignia Solutions, Inc (NASDAQ: INSG), allows the end-user to immediately enjoy his/her services. When the Axalto SIM is inserted in any phone, the handset is automatically detected and configured to instantly access services such as MMS, WAP, videostreaming and push-to-talk. This solution can be hosted either by the operator or by Axalto as part of its managed services offer.

This new solution eliminates complex end-user manipulation for installing handset applications. Axalto SIM cards feature secure and easy one-click handset application installation under the full control of the operator. Developed in collaboration with Bitfone’s handset diagnostic client, the solution substantially improves productivity in the operator support centers.

“Handset configuration has become paramount in the adoption and promotion of new services,” said Xavier Chanay, Vice President Product Marketing and Development, Axalto. “The challenge is further increased by the growing complexity of new handsets such as smartphones. With this SIM-based solution, Axalto offers a very effective device management tool that simplifies and reduces the cost of phone configuration.”
